Essex Libraries Winter Reading Challenge 2026!
This year, children will be guided by six ‘Pawfessionals’, who each have an important role to play in our county and love helping young readers discover new stories and opportunities.
Choose from a selection of reading and crafty activities to earn stickers and complete the challenge! Perfect to keep children engaged with learning, enjoying books, getting creative, and having fun.

Adults Challenge
For adults, from 10 January to 22 February, adults can join in the fun alongside the children’s Winter Reading Challenge.
There are 16 exciting reading prompts designed to inspire you to explore new books and genres.

Nazeing Treasure Trove project launches
A new initiative aimed at tackling digital exclusion among older residents is underway at Hyde Mead House, Nazeing. The Treasure Trove Project brings together reliable internet access and tailored digital skills training to empower residents with the confidence and tools to navigate the digital world.
Inspired by a former resident, Treasure, who was passionate about staying connected with family, this honours her by helping others overcome digital barriers. Her story continues to inspire the mission to enhance digital inclusion in the community.
The project includes:
- Fibre broadband installation to each flat and the communal lounge,
- Communal Wi-Fi in the lounge
- A 6-Week digital skills workshop series, covering topics on internet navigation, online safety, using devices, and accessing health and social care services
