Time to Power Up your food recycling

What you do with the food you throw away makes a lot of difference. That’s why we have partnered with councils across Essex to launch the ‘Power Up’ campaign. This aims to help around 400,000 households make better use of their free weekly food recycling service.

Households, with wheeled general rubbish bins, will get:

  • a free one-off roll of compostable food caddy liners
  • an information leaflet full of tips and tricks about food recycling
  • a reminder sticker, placed on their general rubbish bin

All food can be recycled. Although households in Essex have weekly food waste collection, 30% of general rubbish is still food. Any food in your general rubbish bin could be sat there for 2 weeks before collection, which can cause unpleasant odours. One of the best things about food recycling is that all food can be recycled, just remember to remove the packaging first.
