Treasure Trove Project Celebrates Success at Hyde Mead House
Residents, partners and community stakeholders came together on Monday 8 June to celebrate the success of the Treasure Trove Project at Hyde Mead House.
Developed to tackle digital exclusion and reduce social isolation among older residents, the project delivered a series of six workshops to build confidence, improve access to online and internet services. Residents developed new digital skills, increased their confidence using mobile phones and tablets, and built meaningful connections with others in their community. Many reported greater independence, confidence and a stronger sense of belonging as the weeks progressed.
In memory of Tresure, a much-loved resident of Hyde Mead House, despite having family around the world, she struggled to stay connected due to limited digital confidence. Her kindness and spirit inspired the creation of the project, and her legacy lives on by helping others stay connected. The celebration marked the culmination of the programme, bringing everyone together to reflect on their achievements and recognise the collective effort behind its success.
A huge thanks to Epping Forest Community Champion Volunteers, Essex County Council’s Digital Essex Team, Social Telecoms, Rainbow Services, Epping Forest District Council, Nazeing Parish Council, The Digital Innovation Zone (DIZ) and community partners who contributed their time, expertise and support.

Do you feel safe?
We believe that everyone in the Epping Forest district deserves to feel and be safe, however we know that some women and girls feel unsafe in public spaces, particularly after dark. We’re launching a public safety in Epping Forest district survey to gain a deeper understanding of how safe women feel across the district, and to identify ways to enhance safety for women and girls. The survey asks people to share their personal experiences, concerns and ideas on how to make Epping Forest a safer place for everyone. Please reply by 31 July 2026.
Women’s Safety Charter
Findings from the survey will help our Women’s Safety Charter project, focusing on the urgent need for education on women’s safety, addressing specific male behaviours that contribute to women feeling unsafe, and expanding safe spaces that foster a respectful environment for women throughout the district.
This survey lets both women and men voice their experiences, with the results helping guide EFDC and partnering agencies in shaping strategies to improve safety and overall community wellbeing.
As part of our commitment to improve the experiences of women in our town, the Safer Harlow Partnership and Women’s Safety Consultant, Karen Whybro, have created a Women’s Safety Charter which will bring together members of our community to deliver Safe Spaces around the town, with trained staff members who cultivate a safe environment for all.

Everyone across Essex is being asked to share their views on the future of local health services as NHS Essex launches a new public survey to help shape priorities over the next 5 years.
We want to understand what matters most to local people as we plan how health and care services should improve in the future. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and closes at 5pm on Tuesday 30 June.
