Bigger fines for littering and fly-tipping
Penalties for fly-tipping increased from £400 to £1,000 from 1 April 2026.
The new penalties are a bid to stop the illegal dumping of rubbish in and around the district.
Increases are also coming for other Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to support the enforcement team’s ability to deal with environmental crime.
- Littering FPNs will be increased from £150 to £400.
- Household duty of care FPNs will be increased from £400 to £600
- There will be a new early payment discount for littering and household duty of care FPNs, but not for the maximum fly tipping penalty of £1,000
Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and the increase in penalties reflects residents’ concerns, the seriousness of the offence and the council’s commitment to tackling fly-tipping and protecting local communities.
