Garden waste subscription service from 31 March 2026
Sign up for the new garden waste subscription service from Sunday 1 February 2026. The green-lidded bin will be for garden waste only and will require a subscription of £60.
Residents who want to opt-in the new garden waste subscription service can register online for the subscription from Sunday 1 February and encouraged to sign up straight away to get the full benefits of the service and ensure continuity of collection, but can join at any point throughout the year. The subscription will start from Tuesday 31 March.
Those who opt in will be sent a permit sticker for their green-lidded bin as proof of paid subscription and will have their address and a unique reference number. Garden waste bins without a corresponding permit will not be collected.
Residents will need to empty any food waste they have, such as eggshells, vegetable peelings and tea bags into the new kitchen caddy. When the kitchen caddy is full, it can be emptied into the new outside food caddy ready for collection. Food waste will be collected weekly.
Residents should continue to use their green-lidded bin for food and garden waste until the end of March 2026.

Consultation on new economic development strategy
We are consulting on a new economic development strategy for 2026 to 2029, which sets out our vision to make the district a great place to live, work, study and do business.
We launched our economic development strategy ‘Nurturing Growth’ in 2020. Since its launch the world and its economy has changed significantly due to the pandemic and unforeseen world events.
A new strategy is therefore required to ensure we have a robust and meaningful plan to invest time, resources and funding to take advantage of the opportunities that will arise through the establishment of a mayoral authority for Essex and local government reform.

The consultation will be open from 19 January 2026 to 19 March 2026. Your views and comments expressed in the consultation will be taken into consideration when developing the new strategy.
